Новый Орлеан: Воспоминания #3

1. Вид на башню церкви Успения Пресвятой Богородицы (арх. Альберт Диттель, 1858-1860; 2030 Constance Street) и другие здания комплекса Конгрегации Святейшего Искупителя (редемптористов) в Lower Garden District. Высота башни 43 метра. Церковь объявлена в 1974 году памятником архитектуры федерального значения. Первоначально церковь предназначалась для католиков германского происхождения. Архитектура церкви сочетает в себе элементы готического стиля и барокко и является лучшим примером каменной барочной ахитектуры Нового Орлеана. Фото лета 2005 года. — A view on St. Mary’s Assumption Church tower by Albert Diettel (1858-1860; 2030 Constance Street) and other buildings of the Redemptorist Complex in Lower Garden District. The tower rises to 142 feet. A National Historic Landmark sice 1974. It was originally meant to be the Catholic church for the Germans. The Church was designed in modifid Gothic style with features suggestive of the baroque. The building is considered the finest example of German baroque brick architecture in New Orleans. 3. Памятник иммигранту (скульптор Franco Alessandrini) на набережной Woldenberg Park открыт при содействии итальянской общины в 1995 году. На этом месте многие иммигранты впервые вступали на американскую землю. Фото лета 2005. — Monument to the Immigrant (by Franco Alessandrini) in Woldenberg Park was unveiled on March 19, 1995  with the help of the American Italian community. 6. Здание банка Hibernia (ныне Bank South, отделение Capital One) по адресу 812 Gravier Street. Высота 108 метров. Купол здания подсвечивается по ночам; по праздникам купол подсвечивается разноцветными огнями – красным и зелёным на Рождество, фиолетовым, зелёным и золотым на Марди Гра. Фото августа 2005. — The Hibernia Bank Building (now Bank South, branch of Capital One) at 812 Gravier Street. Its height is 355 feet. The dome is lit up at night; it is lit up with colored lights on holidays - red and green for Christmas and purple, green, and gold for Mardi Gras. 7. Вход в отель The Roosevelt (снимок августа 2005), 123 Baronne Street. Гостиница открылась под названием «Грюневальд» в 1893. В 1923 её переименовали в честь президента Теодора Рузвельта «Рузвельт». В 1965 гостиницу приобрела гостиничная группа Fairmont и переименовала отель в The Fairmont. Гостиница была закрыта после урагана Катрина и открылась весной 2009 года под прежним названием «Рузвельт» (ныне входит в коллекцию Waldorf Astoria группы Hilton). Впрочем, новоорлеанцы всегда называли гостиницу «da Roosevelt». Гостиница протянулась через весь квартал от Baronne St. до University Place. Прохожие могут пройтись по величественному холлу от улицы до улицы. — Entrance to the Fairmont Hotel (photo taken in August 2005) at 123 Baronne Street. It opened under the name The Grunewald in 1893. In 1923, the hotel was renamed The Roosevelt in tribute to President Theodore Roosevelt. When the Fairmont Group purchased the hotel in 1965, the hotel name was changed to The Fairmont. The hotel was closed after Hurricane Katrina and reopened as The Roosevelt (in the Waldorf Astoria collection) in spring 2009. But whatever the name, New Orleanians always called it «da Roosevelt». The hotel stretches across the whole block from Baronne St. to University Place, and you can walk along the grand hall from street to street.

Новый Орлеан: Воспоминания #2

1. Дом 721 на Barracks Street во Французском квартале. Там довольно много таких цветастых домов, с богатой резьбой и росписью декоративных элементов. — Number 721 on Barracks Street in the French Quarter. There are quite a few of such colourful houses there, with rich carvings and painting of decorative elements.

2. Памятник генералу Эндрю Джексону на главной площади – площади Джексона. Памятник выполнен скульптором-самоучкой Кларком Миллзом и открыт в 38-ую годовщину битвы при Новом Орлеане, 8 января 1853 года. Больше об истории памятника здесь. — Andrew Jackson Memorial on New Orleans main square – Jackson Square. The sculpture was made by a self-taught sculptor Clark Mills and dedicated on January 8th, 1853, the 38th anniversary of Jackson’s victory over the British at New Orleans. 3. Угол Dumaine и Bourbon streets во Французском квартале. Историческая реклама «Five Cents Uneeda Biscuit» и ресторанчик Clover Grill, «открытый всю ночь». Ресторан работает примерно с 1939 года. Компания Uneeda Biscuit основана в 1898 году и являлась подразделением New Orleans Nabisco Baking Company и The National Biscuit Company, позднее известных просто как Nabisco Foods. — On the corner of Dumaine and Bourbon Streets in the French Quarter. The historic old Five Cents Uneeda Biscuit sign and the infamous ‘open all night’ Clover Grill diner. The New Orleans Clover Grill has been serving food in The French Quarter since about 1939. The Uneeda Biscuit Company, founded in 1898, was a division of the famous New Orleans Nabisco Baking Company and The National Biscuit Company, later simply known as Nabisco Foods.

4. Conti Street рядом с Royal Street. Табличка гласит: «Когда Новый Орлеан являлся столицей испанской провинции Луизиана в 1762-1803 годах, эта улица носила имя Calle de Conti». — Conti Street at Royal Street. The sign says: «When New orleans was the Capital of the Spanish Province of Luisiana 1762-1803 This street bore the name Calle de Conti».

It is a replica with some changes of a church built between 1851 and 1857 after designs of the Reverend John Cambiaso working with architect T. E. Giraud. When built, the newspapers described it as «Saracenic or Arabian style.» It was demolished for reconstruction in 1926. Architects Wogan, Bernard, and Toledano used much of the old material and the iron pews and columns on the interior.

7. International House – бутик-отель в Центральном деловом районе (221 Camp Street). Здание в стиле боз-ар, или эклектики, продолжавшей традиции итальянского ренессанса и французского барокко, неоклассицизм. Было построено по проекту Эллисона Оуэна открыто в 1906 году в качестве Canal Louisiana Bank & Trust Co. В 1943 году здание превращено в International House – первый Всемирный торговый центр. В 1998 году здание было переделано под бутик-отель. — International House is a boutique hotel at 221 Camp Street in the Central Business District (CBD). It is a building in the Beaux-Arts style, or an eclectic neo-classical style carrying on traditions of the Italian Renaissance and the French Baroque architecture. It was designed by Allison Owen and dedicated in 1906 as the Canal Louisiana Bank & Trust Co. In 1943 it was renovated and became «The International House», or the first World Trade Center. In 1998 the building was turned into a boutique hotel.

6. One Shell Square – пока самое высокое здание в Новом Орлеане и Луизиане (1972, 51 этаж, 212 м., 701 Poydras Street). – One Shell Square, so far the tallest building in New Orleans and Louisiana (1972, 51 floors, 697 ft., 701 Poydras Street).

7. Новоорлеанский трамвайчик на St. Charles Avenue около университетов Tulane и Loyola, 2002. Линия введена в строй 26 сентября 1835 года и работает до сих пор только с одним перерывом (после урагана Катрина). Большинство вагонов построено в 1920-е годы. – A famous St. Charles Avenue streetcar in  near Tulane and Loyola Universities, 2002. Service began on September 26, 1835 and was interrupted only once (after Hurricane Katrina). The bulk of the line’s cars date from the 1920s.

Санфирова

Памятник Ольге Санфировой на улице Аэродромной в Самаре. Ольга Александровна Санфирова родилась в Самаре. Во время Великой Отечественной войны командовала эскадрильей 46-го гвардейского ночного бомбардировочного авиаполка. Погибла 13 декабря 1944. В 1945 году ей посмертно присовено звание Героя Советского Союза. – Monument to Olga Sanfirova in Aerodromnaya Street in Samara. Olga A. Sanfirova was born in Samara. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 she was commander of bomber squadron of the 46th Guards’ night bomber air regiment. She diedon the 13th December 1944. In 1945 she was posthumpusly awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union title.

Выходила ладья в поход

Монумент «Ладья» в память о древнерусских ладьях – лодках, и в честь 400-летия Самары (1986). – Monument Ladya (Boat) commemorating this type of ancient Russian boats and Samara’s 400th anniversary (1986).

Веллингтон

Статуя Веллингтона – английского полководца и государственного деятеля, на Принсес Стрит в Эдинбурге. – Statue of Wellington in Princes Street in Edinburgh.

Сапоги

Часть памятника В. Куйбышеву перед реконструируемым зданием Самарского академического театра оперы и балета на площади Куйбышева. – Part of the monument to Kuybyshev in front of the reconstructed Samara Opera House in Kuybyshev Square in Samara.

Дзержинский

Памятник Ф. Дзержинскому и вид на здание бывшей Хлебной биржи (1893) на Хлебной площади в Самаре. – Monument to Dzerzhinsky and a view on the former Bread Exchange (built in 1893) in Khlebnaya (Bread) Square in Samara.
